The Poetry Train
The 4th Poetry Train connects poets in 40 cities and towns across five states from Omaha to Santa Clara, providing an affordable and unique opportunity for poets to network and collaborate during the journey.
Anthology and Zine
This year, an Anthology featuring 52 selected poets will be published, alongside a hand-printed and stapled Zine created on the Poetry Train. The Zine will include art, writings, and photos from the journey and will be presented in Santa Clara, with a limited print run of 100 copies.
Program and Menu
The festival highlights its diverse events and culinary experiences. The 12-page program, available at www.poetrydowntown.com/program, features nine local menus, four poetry readings, three lectures, two museum visits, and one concert.
Fighting Illiteracy
By uniting amateur and professional poets annually, Poetry Downtown promotes literacy within communities. Erik chose poetry above prose as a simple Haiku can already enhance listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, making it a powerful tool for education and creativity.
American Dream
Erik van Loon’s dream is to lease a dedicated Poetry Train by 2025, complete with restaurant, sleeper, disco, bar, and library cars. In 2025 he hopes to welcome 60 poets on the Poetry Train, continuing to grow this unique festival.
