Submissions
Q: Who can submit to Poetry Downtown?
A: Anyone! Our call for submissions is open to poets of all backgrounds, ages, and experience levels—worldwide.
Q: Is there a submission fee?
A: No. Submissions are completely free.
Q: What is the theme for this year?
A: The 2025 theme is “Turtle Island”, celebrating American Indian Poetry
Q: What are the submission guidelines?
A:
- Maximum of 32 lines per poem
- One poem per person
- Must be original and unpublished
- Submit in English (bilingual poems welcome with English translation)
- Accepted file formats: .doc, .docx, or .pdf
Q: When is the submission deadline?
A: Submissions close on September 1st, at 11:59 PM (your local time).
Q: How do I submit my poem?
A: Visit our Submissions Page www.poetrydowntown.com/submit and follow the instructions to upload your poem.
Anthology & Prizes
Q: Will my poem be published?
A: Up to 52 poets will be selected for inclusion in this year’s Poetry Downtown Anthology.
Q: Do selected poets receive a prize?
A: Selected poets will receive a contributor copy. There and be invited to read at one of our festival events.
Festival Events
Q: Where does the festival take place?
A: Poetry Downtown travels across multiple U.S. cities by train, with readings, lectures, and workshops in each stop. Check our Festival Guide for the latest schedule.
Q: Can I attend events if I’m not published in the anthology?
A: Absolutely! All events are open to the public—some are free, others may require registration.
Q: What is the Poetry Train?
A: The Poetry Train is our traveling literary caravan—poets, artists, and storytellers ride together from city to city, sharing work and building community.
